Weight Loss Success: Ketogenic Diet Helps Woman Get Rid Of 120 Pounds

After a beach holiday where Tori Lewis felt too unpleasant to wear a bathing suit, she understood she needed to lose weight.

Over 12 months ago, Tori Lewis was on a holiday with friends in North Carolina. The weather was lovely, but she felt like she couldn't like it. At 300 pounds, Lewis felt so unpleasant that she refused to head to the beach. Instead, she coped like she commonly did: eating and drinking too much.

“It was not an excellent vacation. I didn’t get in a bathing suit once. I was ashamed to go to restaurants. I drank a lot because that is all I could think to do to have a great time,” Lewis, 28, of Lynchburg, Virginia, informed that. “I was like, ‘OK, this is a mess. I am done living this way.’”

Like a lot of others, Lewis originally gained weight in college when she simply stopped focusing on what she ate and drank. Every year as she gained increasingly more weight, she felt increasingly disappointed. She tried lots of diets, but none of them actually worked.

“I was just in a vicious cycle where I felt horrible about myself and I used food and alcohol to make myself look and feel better,” she said. “I understood that things were getting bad and I kept on ignoring it.”

But after the holiday she understood it was time to change. She spent a lot of her life feeling ashamed about how she appeared and hating herself — it was exhausting.

“From the time I would get up, go to the bathroom and stand facing the mirror the first thought I would have is ‘Oh my God, I hate myself,’” she stated. “Walking into a grocery store could cause me anxiety because I was self-conscious of how I appeared.”

One of her friend’s mothers had lost weight by using the ketogenic diet, a low-carb diet, high in fat and proteins. Lewis wondered if this could benefit her, too. She began researching it and began avoiding sugar and simple carbs and including healthy fats, such as avocado and olive oil.

“I believe it is a completely balanced diet. I stopped eating sugar, which seems really extreme when you listen to someone say it. I stopped eating crappy carbs. I am eating meat and dairy and also vegetables,” she described.

At first, Lewis was skeptical that keto would make a positive change but soon she was losing weight.

“To me, a diet was always something extreme which you went on for a period of time and you lose some weight and you move on. I have totally rewired my brain about the way that I look at food,” she stated.

Since October 2017, Lewis has dropped 120 pounds simply by working on what she eats and now weighs 175 pounds. While she likes the way she looks, she really likes how much stronger she feels emotionally.

“Physical changes are not the only improvements I have undergone. I am happier. I am more ready to do things,” she stated. “I am simply a normal person who did this and other people can achieve this too.”

Lewis shares tips about how others can make healthier options and lose weight.

Huge shout out to my husband @keto_travis for going on this journey with me. I don’t know if we would have been as successful without the constant support from one another. It’s been so much fun getting healthy and finding our confidence TOGETHER! Travis was ready to throw in the towel after the first week..the Friday after we started he called me at work and told me that he didn’t think this was for him. THANK GOD he was on evening shift that week because we were CRANKY AF. detoxing from the carbs and sugar is no joke! it’s HARD. But stick with it!!! So worth it! The first picture was taken 5 years ago on the day we got married and the second picture was taken last week at the beach. . . . . #ketofam #keto #ketodiet #ketocouple #ketolife #ketoweightloss #ketoweightlossjourney #ketotransformation #weightloss #weightlossjourney #weightlosssuccess #weightlossmotivation #weightlosstransformation

First Tip: Have a buddy.

Lewis’ husband Travis, 31, also committed to keto and has dropped 90 pounds. Following the diet with each other made it easier for Lewis to remain accountable to her goals.

“We speak about our weight loss every single day,” she stated. "It was fun to have a person along for the ride who understood. Just to have the assistance was good.”

Second Tip: Just get started.

When Lewis understood it was time to lose weight, she researched what would give good result for her life. She was armed with information, and understood she needed to make some changes.

“The toughest part is starting. You need to make a plan. You need to do some independent research and then you need to commit yourself,” she stated.

Third Tip: 'Be patient.'

While Lewis experienced amazing weight loss in a little more than 12 months, it took some time for her to see results. Sometimes it didn’t look like she understood what she was doing or that it would work. But she stuck to it and she attained her goal: weighing less than her husband.

“You also need to be patient,” she stated. “It is amazingly overwhelming for so many reasons when you make a change such as this.”
